When it comes to measuring the impact of your marketing, it all boils down to conversions.
A conversion is when a visitor to your page or site did the thing you were hoping they’d do, like sign up for your newsletter, listen to your song, or, in the case of your Gumroad products, make a purchase.
At Gumroad, we strive to keep conversions well above industry averages though rigorous A/B testing of the entire checkout experience. But if you’re investing in targeted advertising campaigns on Facebook or Twitter, you need a way to send your conversion data back to these platforms.
That’s why we’re pleased to announce our new Conversion Tracking feature. Now you can see which of your promotions are leading to the most sales, without having to install any code.
Setting it up
Simply enter your tracking pixel or tag into your Gumroad settings page (visit the Gumroad Help Center for instructions on where to find these).
Then, go ahead and create your ad campaign using that pixel or tag. When choosing the goal for your campaign, be sure to select the option with conversions. On Facebook this is increase conversions on your website. On Twitter its website clicks or conversions.
Try out several variations of your ad using different copy, images, and targeting. Change only one specific element in each version, so you can hone in on what’s causing conversions to go up or down.
Your Gumroad sales and revenue will automatically be sent back to the advertising platform, so you can see which ads are performing well. Nix the ads that aren’t giving you a good return on your investment, and refine the ones that do.
Target the right people
Advertising has changed. Instead of simply blasting your message out to the world, you now have the power to target the people who really want to support you, based on their location, language, interests, people they follow, and much more.
Once your campaigns have been running for a while, you can use your conversion data to get more targeted with your ad campaigns. Facebook allows you to create a Lookalike Audience based on your purchasers and Twitter automatically prompts you to create a Tailored Audience for remarketing when you set up your tag.
For step-by-step instructions on setting up conversion tracking, visit our Help Center. As always, we love to hear what you think of these new features.
