The Small Product Lab

As creators, it’s incredibly hard to build a platform, a reputation, and a living from scratch. The only real way to do it is to start—to put something out into the world. Oh, sure. Just put something out. Ship it. No problem.

Yeah, it’s incredibly daunting. But this beyond-huge notion can be whittled and stripped down to something manageable. Something… small.

We’ve written about starting small on the Gumroad blog before, but we realized that it’s easy to say simplify, cut it down, and stick to your deadline. There’s still too much uncertainty about how to get from A (no product) to B (a product, sales, telling the world). It’s likely that you’ll get overwhelmed, discouraged, or never even start.

That’s why we’ve built The Small Product Lab—a mini course, community, launchpad, and contest to remove the unknowns and barriers to getting your work out in the world.

Ten days, ten actionable lessons. Here’s the game plan:

  • Day 1: Mark your calendars
  • Day 2: What’s your product?
  • Day 3: Plan it
  • Day 4: Create a style guide
  • Day 5: Ready, set, go!
  • Day 6: Share your process and progress
  • Day 7: Decoding the pricing puzzle
  • Day 8: Package it up
  • Day 9: Prep for launch
  • Day 10: The launch and onward

All of the essentials you’ll need to build and launch a small product. But it’s not just a set of emails and a to-do list. We’ve assembled a mighty team of experts, and they’ll be dishing out lessons and participating in Twitter chats along the way.

We’ve also got a Facebook group where you can get help, post your progress, and make small talk (ahem) with other members of the community.

Finally, we’ve got a prize package with a plethora of tools to build your business, like Adobe Creative Cloud, Scrivener, Canva, and ConvertKit.

We’d like to give credit to and thank some amazing people who have already walked their audiences through their processes of shipping an entire small product in a short period of time. Nathan Barry, Amy Hoy, Justin Jackson, etc. Their work has inspired us, and we recommend that you check them out.

It all starts on Monday, June 15th. So sign up for the Lab and get ready to hit the small time.
